Spread Awareness Now
Dysautonomia is an Umbrella Term for Autonomic Nervous System Disorder! It means absolutely nothing to you or anyone else until it hits home. Help us raise Awareness of the various diseases under this umbrella!!! It comes like a tornado swirling its destructive anger all while holding its victim hostage!
Can you imagine your life as a storm continually destroying you, its target, and never going out to sea? Or, think about fixing your tornado-blown- out wall while 100-mile winds smack, punch and kick you, as you struggle to repair your wall to keep your family safe! This a faint example of what these victims experience every day!
If you found yourself on this page, you either came here by accident or because your curiosity about the topic “Dysautonomia” kicked in! Please stay with me for five minutes and read on. Thank you!
October is the month for a fundraising for this cause and there is a fundraising event on Facebook every October.
Ehlers-Danlos a form of Dysautonomia Hits Home
My niece and her husband share this daily havoc with the storm’s bullseye – their precious daughter! The deceiving appearance of healing from a foot injury at 8 years old, left Anna experiencing constant pain. However, her 14th birthday came before this label of amplified pain brought a diagnosis. She had a complication of both dysautonomia and Ehlers Danlos syndrome. Patients with those diagnoses present similarly, yet differently. That is because it is very individual – always active and involving! She now lives with this vengeful companion!
We are a family of huggers! Ordinarily, we hug hellos and good-bys! However, hugging Anna is a no-no! Imagine that kind of pain from an endearing hug! Regardless of her feeding tube and daily preps, pricks and do-overs, Anna remains a positive and beautiful young lady! Dealing with a debilitating disease is never a choice! Nevertheless, these patients are often our most accomplishing persons, citizens, leaders and researchers. Hats off to amazing caregivers and parents such as Rachel and John, who nurture them!!!
Dysautonomia Awareness Month is held every October! Raising public awareness of this debilitating disease is paramount to finding a cure! It not only affects the lives of its victims but their families, as well. When you donate through Tipping Circle starting October 1, TC will send the funds directly to Dysautonomia International website.
Dysautonomia is an Umbrella Term for Autonomic Nervous System Disorder
Dysautonomia is a term for several disorders of the autonomic nervous system. This autonomic nervous system disorder involves the failure of the sympathetic parts of the autonomic system. It can also occur involving the excessive and overactive autonomic nervous system.
Our autonomic nervous system controls every “automatic” function of the body. These functions include heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, dilation. Also included are constriction of the eye, kidney function, and temperature control.
Anyone living with various forms of dysautonomia has trouble regulating these systems. Lightheadedness, fainting, unstable blood pressure, abnormal heart rates, trouble breathing, swallowing, and malnutrition, are just some of the common symptoms! In severe cases, even death!
Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome
One form of Dysautonomia is Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and my niece, Anna deals with both! (EDS) is a genetic condition that affects collagen, and connective tissue. Connective tissue includes joints, ligaments, tendons, skin, and organ tissues. The most common EDS symptoms include overly flexible joints, stretchy, loose skin and easy bruising. There are currently 13 subtypes of EDS. The most common is hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS).
Remember Anna and the thousands of others like her every October! Help us bring awareness to this debilitating illness this October. Let us contribute to research for a cure and help them.
Dysautonomia is Acute and Reversible or Chronic and Progressive
Dysautonomia can be local such as in reflex sympathetic dystrophy. It can also be generalized, as in pure autonomic failure. This disease can be acute and reversible, as in Guillain-Barre syndrome, or chronic and progressive. Diabetes and Alcholism commonly can include dysautonomia.
This disease, Dysautonomia. can occur in association with degenerative neurological diseases such as Parkinson’s and Multiple Sclerosis. It can also occur secondary to other medical conditions, such as diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, celiac, Sjogren’s syndrome, and lupus.
Different diseases under the umbrella of Dysautonomia is not rare. Worldwide, there are more than 70 million people that live with several aspects of this disease! It does not matter what your age, race, or gender! Anyone can be its victim! To date, there is no cure for any form of the disease. However, Dysautonomia International is funding research to develop better treatments and hopefully a cure. With the millions of victims suffering, they still do not get diagnosed for years! The lack of awareness in the medical profession and the public is unacceptable.
Let’s Make the Public Aware of this Disease Now! Help Us Fund More Research!
