Churro Fun Starts With the Recipe
- 1 cup water
- 6 tblsp butter, cut in cubes
- 2 tblsp granulated sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup all-purpose flour (scoop and level to measure)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- cinnamon 3/4 tsp. – sugar 1/2 cup for coating
Mixing Up a Batch of Churros
- In a large saucepan over medium heat, add water, sugar and butter. Bring to a boil, and then add vanilla. Heat must be off to add flour and salt. Stir with a wooden spoon until thickened, 30 seconds. Then, let it cool for at least 10 minutes. (caution: the cooling time is necessary so the batter can stiffen while cooling to make frying better.)
- To cooled mixture, using a hand mixer, beat in eggs one at a time until combined. Transfer mixture to a piping bag fitted with a large open star tip.
- Use medium heat and a large pot to add enough oil halfway and heat to 375°. Carefully have the piping bag a few inches above the oil and pipe 6″ ropes of dough and cut off with kitchen scissors.
- Fry about 4 to 5 minutes, until golden brown and turn as necessary. You can fry 3 to 4 churros at a time. The oil must reach 375° again before frying another batch. A slotted spoon or tongs is perfect to remove churros. Then roll them immediately in cinnamon sugar and put them on a cooling rack.
Filled Churros or Dipped Churros
You definitely want to make chocolate dipping sauce for your churros! Doubling your chocolate dipping sauce is something you want to do because kids and adults in hale them fast. No one can get enough of them. However, wait until you make them for the first time before you double-up. It is common for everyone to mix another batch right away because they will be waiting in line to grab more! That’s when the second time goes fast because everyone joins in to help when they can’t wait for more! The second time is so much fun because everyone is ready to start chomping again!

Churros Made in Air Fryer
There is something very special about Churros! My Mother would spend hours in the kitchen making her real old-fashioned donuts. She mastered that craft so well that our neighbors came calling on Donut Day (the day before Lent started). They loved her donuts so much and she was always happy and willing to share them!
Mom would be in awe if she were still here with us. I’m sure once she tasted Churros and knew how easy they are to make, she would trade donut making for churro making. To enjoy churros with her friendly neighbors instead of a whole day in the kitchen would be an awesome treat by itself!
Well, no need for any of us to spend hours over a hot pan! Let’s mix our Churro dough and start feasting! This delicious snack is addictive! Traditional Churros are deep fried, but you can also make them in your Air-Fryer as well. They get perfect, airy, crispy and light just the way we like them! Just spray with non-stick cooking spray so they get evenly golden. In your Air-Fryer, watch them the first time so that you can time how long they take to cook in your fryer.
If you’re looking for a new way to put your air fryer to use you have to try this churro recipe. Who can resist a crispy, cinnamon-sugar treat? No one at my house, that’s for sure. Air fryer cooking is a great way to cook crispy, crunchy food without all the oil. An air fryer is basically a mini convection oven for your countertop – it works the same way by rotating hot air all around the food and churros get that amazing crispy texture you like when deep frying, but with way less oil.

Churro Making History
Every country has a fried dough like the Mexican Churro. However, the Mexican churro with cinnamon sugar are the most loved. They just coat with sugar in Spain. The doughs are all very similar, but the cinnamon sugar coated churros from Mexico are the most scrumptious and I love them!!
The churro is actually believed to originate in Spain! Some people think it came from China from their youtiao pastry, which was fried in oil. But, they never paired with chocolate or cinnamon. For hundreds of years, In Spain, the people made churros with a liquid chocolate and often ate them as a delicious start of their day! They were served hot at breakfast, lunch, dinner or as a snack in Spain and Portugal. Churros actually did originate there.
